Institute

The Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics (LTT), founded in 1989 and based in Erlangen-Tennenlohe, is one of ten institutes of the Department of Chemical and Bioengineering (CBI) at the Faculty of Engineering of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). In addition to basic lectures on technical thermodynamics and heat and mass transfer in various course programmes, the LTT  offers a wide range of advanced courses in the fields of energy technology, combustion and measurement methods

Research at the LTT Erlangen covers a broad spectrum, starting with basic investigations, e.g. on complex molecules, particle formation and combustion processes, through to the improvement of technical processes in energy and process engineering. A major methodological focus of the LTT lies in the development and application of optical, mostly laser-based measurement methods. In all research areas, there is close cooperation with national and international partners from science and industry. Among other things, the LTT is integrated into the FAU institutions founded as part of the Excellence Initiative, namely the Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT) and the Competence Unit Engineering of Advanced Materials (EAM).
